- Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine - Comics and Medicine: The Sequential Art of Illness
This second international interdisciplinary conference aims explore the
past, present, and possible future of comics in the context of the healthcare
experience. Programs in medical humanities have long touted the benefits of
reading literature and studying visual art in the medical setting, but the use
of comics in healthcare practice and education is relatively new. The melding
of text and image has much to offer all members of the healthcare team,
including patients and families. As such, a subgenre of graphic narrative known
as graphic medicine is emerging as a field of interest to both scholars and
creators of comics.
- Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine - Medical Humanities & Bioethics Program
The Medical Humanities and Bioethics Program has a 25-year history of interdisciplinary research and teaching at every level of medical education. Begun as a way of encouraging reflection on values issues in medicine, the program has expanded to promote and support interdisciplinary work in bioethics, the medical humanities, and the values-oriented social sciences.

BEHM is part of the new initiative at Stanford University School of Medicine to enable medical students to study a chosen area in depth as a complement to the breadth of knowledge and skills gained by general medical education. BEMH is an opportunity for interested students to reflect on, analyze and contribute to the meaning of medicine by focusing on one (or more!) of the diverse fields that contribute to bioethics and/or the arts and humanities as related to medicine.
